SOCIAL IMPACT

In regular conversations with local leaders, we have collaboratively identified school and community needs and, with collective action, we are addressing them with financial and strategic support.

Current Impact Programs

  • Rising Tides Scholarship Fund: assisting graduates in successfully earning a higher education diploma. We are currently funding two 2023 graduates with full 4-year scholarships.

    • Needs: increase the number of scholarships

  • Silent Knowledge Learning Program: (website) co-directing this intervention program to keep at-risk youth in school and offer the emotional and social skills to become pro-social leaders of their community.

    • Needs: continue the program amidst school budget cuts, increase participants and contact time, create a female-identifying group, additional outdoor activities, food and materials, swag to incentivize participation

  • Young Filmmakers Program: collaborating with Education without Borders to equip young adults with the technical skills to produce their own documentaries.

    • Needs: more used iPhones and A/V equipment to increase access for additional filmmakers

  • Loxion Mobile Library and Litha Sam-Sam, which is a mobile book bank that offers reading access to young children in Capricorn, South Africa.

    • Needs: purchase books written in home language and target languages

  • Documentary Production: we tell the stories Lavender Hill HS, its current faculty and students, and successful alumni.

    • Needs: funding production and post-production of “Lukho” and “Lavender in the Hills”

Future Impact Programs

With fundraising support, we will continue collaborating with local non-profit organizations to support their work:

  • College Counseling Program: partnering with Arethan Farao in assisting grades 10, 11, and 12 students in college and career guidance

    • Needs: funding for materials and personal costs endured by Ms. Farao

  • Sweet Pea Development and Nomonde Kondile, which provides occupational skills training in Strand, South Africa.

    • Needs: develop curricular materials, build a website, hire workshop facilitators, and eventually secure a space for their programs.

  • Foundation for Positive Change and Rashaad Allen, a behavior interventionist and former gangster who supports community safety and transition programming
