THIS STARK, BUZZING PRIMARY SCHOOL IS SITUATED BETWEEN SOMERSET WEST AND STRAND, NEXT TO A FEW RAPIDLY EXPANDING BLACK NEIGHBORHOODS (FORMER TOWNSHIPS). MOST OF THE STUDENT SPEAK AN AFRICAN LANGUAGE AS HOME AND ARE LEARNING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE. THE SCHOOL IS COMPRISED OF 32 TRAILERS SITTING ON GRAVEL AND CONCRETE. THE PRINCIPAL BATTLES CAPACITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY CONSTRAINTS TOWARD PROVIDING AN EDUCATION FOR EACH CHILD.
